3 easy marketing tools I’m using to fill my virtual support group as a therapist with an all-online practice - and bring in an extra $300 per hour
Last year, my online practice was overflowing with $200+ sessions. So much so that I literally did not have space on my calendar for new clients (I have really strict boundaries around working only 4 days a week max).
So in 2025, I experimented with hosting a weekly virtual support group for chronic illness - my specialty. It turned out to be a great way to add an extra income stream ($200-$300 a week) and allowed chronically ill people in Louisiana to access this beautiful community we built. It was so successful, I decided to start another cohort after taking a break to travel in June and July.
Here’s the exact marketing formula I’m using to fill the next cohort of my online support group that you can re-use to build your next income stream:
Starting a waitlist on my website
My website has an easy form you can fill out to join the waitlist for my group. A waitlist is a great way to check if people are ACTUALLY interested in your group, build anticipation for your group, and allows you gather contact info for when you’re ready to launch.
Sharing my waitlist on local online groups (both for therapists AND ideal clients)
I’ll be sharing a post on various local Facebook groups marketing my group with a clear call to action at the end (i.e. “Use the link below to sign up for the waitlist”). Not only will I be sharing in local therapist-specific groups, but also in groups where my ideal clients for this group are (state-specific or chronic illness specific online groups).
Following up with past group members
The easiest new customer to acquire in any business? Someone who has already worked with you and had a positive experience. I’ll be letting past group members know that the next cohort is opening later this summer. These group members can choose to take a break or join the next cohort for additional support.
