Why working from home in your online practice can feel like “part-time retirement”
Tap into the same freedom in your income and time that can come with retirement - long before actual retirement
Have you ever had the thought “I can’t wait until retirement” - and you’re not even in your 40s yet?
When I was working for an agency, I would fantasize about what retirement would look like (totally normal to do at 22, right?). I would daydream retiring in my home state of Florida and taking river cruises in Europe and pottery classes at the local community college whenever I felt like it (Fun fact: I have enough financial and time freedom now to do all of those things - I’m off this whole week for a random week in March!).
The truth is when you work from home in your own online private practice, you can access the same emotional and energetic benefits that come from fulltime retirement long before you actually retire.
We’ve really normalized stress as just a “part of life”. I decided early on: whatever I could control (my business) was NOT going to be a major stressor in my life.
You have enough stress just coordinating google calendars, fighting traffic to make it to work on time, and balancing all of the roles you play at home and in the therapy room.
Your work doesn’t have to be stressful.
It can be a source of creativity, a source of growth and income, and yes a source for challenges - but not prolonged stress.
Having your own online practice - where you can work from your home with only a laptop and cozy, private space - can make the difference between counting down the days to retirement and creating a life you love where you can experience “part-time retirement” every. Single. Day.
Keep reading for 3 ways building your dream online practice (even just part-time as an additional side income to your agency job) can really help you feel “partially retired”:
1.You work SIGNIFICANTLY less than 40 hours a week
When working for an agency or large hospital, you might work 40 hours a week (but let’s be real, probably more in between finishing last minute notes or handling crises).
In your own online practice, you might choose to see 25, 15 or even less clients a week. It’s not early retirement - but it can feel like having your own online practice frees up so much of your time.
2. YOU decide your schedule
You’re the boss. You get to dictate when to go work.
Don’t want to work before 10am? Don’t! Schedule everyone for 11am onward.
Want afternoons to yourself to play with your kids or go to dinner with friends? Great! You get to give yourself afternoons off. Like a retiree, you can even fit in extra time on the golf course or on the hiking trail because you have freedom over your calendar.
3. You get to feel RELIEF from work stress
No more waking up at 6am to be at work for 8am. No more worrying about traffic jams. No more sitting at your desk for lunch because you’re worried about getting back in time.
Working remotely from the comfort of home means you simply have less stressors in your life.
Your life is consistently filled with space, not stressors, because of the space you intentionally created with your online practice.
